Zonlet

Free UPC barcode generator

Generate UPC-A barcodes for retail products in the US and Canada. Enter the 11-digit number and Zonlet adds the check digit, or enter all 12 digits to verify them.

What is a UPC barcode?

UPC-A (Universal Product Code) is the 12-digit barcode found on most products sold in the United States and Canada. It identifies the manufacturer and the product, and ends with a check digit that helps scanners catch errors.

Check digit done for you

Type the first 11 digits and Zonlet calculates the 12th. Enter all 12 and Zonlet verifies the last digit, so a typo doesn't end up printed on thousands of boxes.

Getting UPC numbers

Major retailers and marketplaces generally require UPC numbers issued to your company by GS1 US. Once you have them, use Zonlet to create the barcode artwork for your packaging, hang tags and shelf labels.

How to make a UPC barcode

  1. Enter the UPC number. Type 11 digits, or all 12 if you already have the check digit.
  2. Add product text. Optionally add a product name or SKU as a caption.
  3. Adjust the look. Choose bar height and whether to show digits under the bars.
  4. Download. Export SVG for print artwork, PNG for labels, or PDF.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between UPC and UPC-A?

UPC-A is the standard 12-digit UPC barcode. When people say "UPC barcode" they almost always mean UPC-A, which is what Zonlet generates.

Do I need to calculate the check digit?

No. Enter 11 digits and Zonlet adds the correct check digit automatically.

Can I sell on Amazon with these barcodes?

Zonlet creates the barcode image. Marketplaces like Amazon generally require that the UPC number itself is licensed from GS1, so use your GS1-issued numbers.

Is the UPC barcode generator free?

Yes. Single UPC barcodes and small batches are free without an account.
